Abia State to Demolish, Rebuild College of Health Sciences, Aba

The Abia State Government has announced that demolition and reconstruction works at the Abia State College of Health Sciences and Management Technology, Aba, will commence within the week. This initiative is part of a broader plan to overhaul state-owned tertiary institutions and improve the quality of education across Abia State.

According to a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Alex Otti, Njoku Ukoha, most of the college’s structures are over 70 years old and have fallen into a dilapidated state. The reconstruction aims to provide students with a modern, safe, and conducive learning environment. Visual prototypes of the new structures have been released to give the public an idea of what the completed project will look like.

Ukoha explained that the redevelopment is aligned with Governor Otti’s commitment to recover, remodel, and modernize all state-owned tertiary institutions. The Abia State College of Health Sciences is among several institutions currently undergoing transformation under the administration. Other projects include the complete renovation of Abia State College of Education (Technical) in Arochukwu, massive rehabilitation and construction at Abia State University, Uturu, and the preparation of the permanent site of Abia State Polytechnic, Aba, for relocation. Additionally, the Abia State University Teaching Hospital, Aba, is undergoing extensive upgrading and construction.

The state government emphasized that these interventions aim to reverse years of neglect in the education sector, enhance academic standards, and improve service delivery in public institutions. Governor Otti’s administration seeks to create facilities that meet modern educational needs, provide better learning experiences for students, and support the development of skilled professionals in the state.

The redevelopment of the College of Health Sciences, Aba, underscores Abia State’s broader commitment to revamping its public education system and ensuring that tertiary institutions provide high-quality, accessible, and functional learning environments for all students.
