Tinubu Swears In Dr Muttaqha Darma as Housing Minister, Urges Commitment to National Development

Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sworn in Muttaqha Rabe Darma as the new Minister of Housing and Urban Development following his confirmation by the Senate.

Dr Darma replaces Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, who recently stepped down from the position. The brief swearing in ceremony took place at the State House, where the President charged the new minister to rise to the demands of the role.

Tinubu described the appointment as coming at a critical time in Nigeria’s development journey, emphasizing the need for capable leadership in key sectors. He praised Darma’s professional background and track record, noting that his experience makes him well suited for the responsibilities ahead.

“You have a very rich and interesting background. As a leader, we need competent hands like yours,” the President said, adding that Darma should be prepared to serve diligently in any capacity required.

Dr Darma brings extensive academic and administrative experience to the role. He holds advanced degrees in business administration and industrial engineering and has contributed significantly to both public service and academia. His career spans engineering, governance, and development policy.

He previously served as Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund and held commissioner roles in Katsina State, overseeing portfolios such as works, housing, transport, and rural development. He has also lectured at Bayero University Kano and remains active in professional bos including the Nigerian Society of Engineers.

Before his appointment, Darma led the Umaru Musa YarAdua Human Development Centre, where he focused on governance and development research.

His appointment is expected to bring renewed focus to housing and urban development policies, a sector seen as vital to Nigeria’s infrastructure growth and economic expansion.
