Sharon Adeleke, sister of Afrobeats star Davido, has said the singer played a major role in introducing a flashy and luxurious lifestyle into Nigeria’s music industry.

She made the statement during Davido’s Apple Radio live takeover, held to celebrate his 15th anniversary in music, where family and close associates reflected on his journey and influence.

According to Sharon, Davido helped redefine how success is expressed in the Nigerian entertainment scene by making opulence and public display of wealth more mainstream. She noted that before his rise, such flamboyance was not as widely embraced or celebrated.

“I think that David is one of the people that started all this being flashy and showing off and making it cool in Nigeria,” she said.

Responding, Davido acknowledged earlier influences, pointing to the impact of the now defunct Mo Hits. He explained that while the group introduced the idea of having a strong team or crew, he expanded on that culture in a way that reflected global trends, particularly in the United States where successful artists often move with a close circle.

Sharon, however, maintained that Davido took things further by popularising the lifestyle and making it a defining feature of modern Afrobeats culture.

Davido has consistently credited pioneers like Don Jazzy and D banj for shaping his musical ambitions. In past interviews, he recalled spending time around the Mo Hits crew during his early years, an experience that influenced his decision to pursue music despite initial resistance from his family.

Over the years, Davido’s brand has become closely associated with luxury, success, and global appeal, contributing to the evolving image of Nigerian artists on the international stage.
