The Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu has approved the appointment of Chief Superintendent of Police Ali Giwa as the new Force New Media Officer of the Nigeria Police Force.
The announcement was confirmed on Sunday by former Force Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin in a post shared on the social media platform X.
According to Hundeyin the appointment forms part of a new initiative aimed at strengthening the police digital communication structure. The newly elished New Media Office at the Force Headquarters in Abuja is expected to improve how the police communicate with the public online and enhance awareness of the force operations.
Ali Giwa brings more than 15 years of experience in law enforcement and public safety to the position. His professional background includes public order management cybercrime investigation and cybersecurity operations within the police system.
He currently serves as a Cybersecurity Specialist at the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Center located in Abuja where he has been involved in tackling digital crimes and strengthening cyber security capacity.
Over the years Giwa has also held several strategic roles within the police force. Between September 2023 and December 2024 he served as Police Assistant to the Deputy Inspector General of Police in the Department of Logistics and Supply.
Earlier in his career he worked as Public Relations Officer for the Nigeria Police Cooperative Multi Purpose Society Limited. He also served as Assistant Police Public Relations Officer at the Obalende Annex in Lagos and later became Deputy Police Public Relations Officer for the Lagos State Command.
Giwa has handled various operational duties across police formations including roles as crime officer surveillance officer and human rights officer.
His appointment comes shortly after the Inspector General named Deputy Commissioner of Police Anthony Placid as the new Force Public Relations Officer replacing Benjamin Hundeyin as the official spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force.
