Former Senator representing Ogun Central Senatorial District, Iyabo Obasanjo, on Wednesday engaged women organisations and labour leaders in Abeokuta, pledging credible, inclusive, and continuity-driven governance if elected governor in the 2027 election.

The meeting, held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, brought together representatives of professional women’s associations, artisans, and civil society groups. Obasanjo emphasised that sustainable development requires policies and programmes that are maintained across successive administrations rather than abandoned with leadership ces.

The former Commissioner for Health said her governorship aspiration is aimed at consolidating progress in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and economic development while prioritising women, youths, and vulnerable groups. She stated, “If entrusted with the mandate in 2027, my administration will be anchored on credibility, competence and compassion. Women will not merely be mobilisers during elections; they will be decision-makers at the highest levels of governance.”

Obasanjo also highlighted her commitment to transparency and accountability, promising that budgets will translate into tangible improvements in schools, hospitals, roads, and job opportunities. She urged women to play an active role in strengthening democratic culture and promoting peaceful participation ahead of the 2027 elections.

On economic development, she pledged to continue the ongoing industrialisation drive, strengthen agriculture, and boost tourism to create jobs and expand revenue. Obasanjo noted Ogun State’s strategic location near Lagos and ports, emphasising opportunities for industrial and agricultural exports.

The former senator, the first child of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, recently returned to active politics after 15 years in the United States, where she worked as a professor and epidemiology specialist. She previously served as Ogun State Commissioner for Health and represented Ogun Central in the Senate from 2007 to 2011.
