Workers’ Day 2025: FG Declares May 1 Public Holiday, Urges Innovation and Productivity

The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Thursday, May 1, 2025, a public holiday to commemorate this year’s Workers’ Day Celebration. The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the government, as stated by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo praised Nigerian workers for their diligence and sacrifice, emphasizing that their efforts are fundamental to the nation’s greatness and Nigeria’s respected standing among nations. “There is dignity in labour; the dedication and commitment to the work we do is vital to nation-building,” the Minister remarked. He called on workers to embrace a culture of innovation and productivity to elevate governance standards and ensure that Nigerians reap the maximum benefits from the country’s wealth.

The Minister also highlighted the importance of peace as a catalyst for industrialization and economic growth. He reassured citizens of the Tinubu administration’s unwavering commitment to securing the lives and property of all Nigerians and foreigners in the country.

As Workers’ Day approaches, Dr. Tunji-Ojo extended warm wishes to all workers and urged Nigerians to remain steadfast in supporting President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to deliver on promises of progress and prosperity.
