Nasarawa LP Reaffirms Support for Julius Abure’s Leadership

The Nasarawa State chapter of the Labour Party (LP) has publicly declared its solid support for the party’s National Chairman, Julius Abure, following the Court of Appeal’s recent judgment that validated his position. In a press statement released in Lafia, State Chairman Alexander Ombugu congratulated Abure and the National Executive Council (NEC) on this legal victory.

The Court of Appeal in Abuja, in a judgment delivered by Honourable Justice Hamma Akawu Barka on January 17, 2025, upheld the March 2024 Nnewi national convention of the party, thereby affirming Abure’s leadership. This decision was based on an earlier ruling from November 13, 2024, under Appeal Number CA/Abj/CV/1172/2024, involving the Labour Party, Chief Olusola Nehemiah Ebiseni, and INEC.

Ombugu lauded the court’s decision as a confirmation of the robustness of Nigeria’s judicial system and the Labour Party’s adherence to democratic norms. He praised Justice Barka for his role in ensuring that INEC recognizes Abure’s leadership.

The statement from Ombugu highlighted the significance of the court’s ruling, stating, “On behalf of the executives, members, and supporters of the Labour Party in Nasarawa State, I wish to congratulate our National Chairman, Julius Abure, the National Working Committee (NWC), and the entire National Executive Council (NEC) of our great party for the victory at the Appeal Court.”

He further stressed the judiciary’s role in upholding the rule of law, expressing gratitude for the integrity shown in this decision. Ombugu also called for unity within the party, urging members to reconcile and work together towards the common goals of the Labour Party, particularly with an eye on the 2027 general elections.

“It is our collective responsibility to take the Labour Party to greater heights,” Ombugu remarked, appealing to all members to collaborate under Abure’s leadership to “rescue Nigeria” in the upcoming elections. He emphasized that unity is essential for building a strong party capable of achieving its political objectives.
