Tiwa Savage Reveals She Initially Disliked Some of Her Biggest Hits

Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage recently revealed that two of her biggest hit songs, Eminado and Dorobucci, almost didn’t make it to the public because she initially disliked them. In an interview on Cool FM, the singer shared that she was hesitant about the tracks and only released them due to the insistence of Don Jazzy, her former manager and music producer, who had faith they would resonate with listeners.

Savage recalled her first impression of Eminado, saying, “I hated Eminado when I first heard it. Don Jazzy played it for me, and I was like, I don’t like it.” She went on to explain that Don Jazzy was determined for the song to be on her album. When she objected, he firmly insisted, telling her the album wouldn’t be released without Eminado in it. Despite her reservations, Jazzy assured her he understood what would appeal to the Nigerian music scene.

Her trust in Don Jazzy’s instincts paid off, as Eminado quickly became a favorite among fans. Reflecting on the experience, she admitted, “Now I have to perform it every time because everyone is waiting for it.”

Similarly, she spoke about her doubts surrounding Dorobucci, another successful track. Savage was the last to record her verse and had strong reservations, convinced the song wouldn’t catch on. “I did not like Dorobucci either; everybody loved it,” she admitted. “I was the last person to do my verse, and I did not like it. I was like, nobody is going to like it, and then the whole of Africa loved it.”

Tiwa’s experience underscores the unpredictable nature of music and the importance of trusting collaborators, especially when they have a finger on the pulse of popular trends. Both Eminado and Dorobucci went on to become some of her most memorable tracks, winning over fans across Africa and beyond.
