The Enugu State Police Command has reported the killing of two suspected kidnappers during a raid on their hideout on Thursday. The operation took place in Nokpa-Nike, located within the Enugu East Local Government Area, and resulted in the successful rescue of a kidnapped victim.
Police spokesperson Daniel Ndukwe stated that the raid was executed by operatives from the command’s Anti-Kidnapping, Distress Response, and Special Intervention Squads. Acting on carefully gathered intelligence, the police stormed the suspects’ hideout. Upon their arrival, the kidnappers opened fire, leading to an intense gunfight that resulted in the deaths of two suspects, while others managed to escape with injuries.
During the operation, law enforcement recovered a significant cache of weapons, including one G-3 rifle, two AK-47 rifles, three magazines, and 125 rounds of live ammunition. Ndukwe emphasized that this gang was responsible for a series of kidnappings in and around the Enugu metropolis, noting that several of their members had been previously arrested and arraigned.
In response to the rising threat of kidnapping in the area, the Enugu State Government has taken proactive measures, including the demolition of buildings used by the criminals. These actions are part of ongoing efforts to combat kidnapping and enhance the safety and security of residents.
The police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities. The successful operation underscores the commitment of the Enugu State Police Command to tackle organized crime and ensure the safety of its citizens.
I believe police shouldnt resort to lethal force in every situation. There must be better ways to handle suspects.
