39 Involved in Multi Vehicle Crash on Abuja AYA Nyanya Route

The Federal Road Safety Corps has confirmed that 39 persons were involved in a multiple vehicle crash along the Kugbo Furniture Market axis of the AYA Nyanya route in Abuja.

This was disclosed on Tuesday by the Acting Corps Public Education Officer, Felicia Kalu, who said the incident occurred at about 4 48 pm on Monday and involved six vehicles, including two tippers, a commercial bus, and private cars.

According to her, the FRSC rescue team from the Zebra 12 Unit arrived at the scene within four minutes of receiving the distress call and immediately began life saving operations. In a coordinated effort, officers successfully rescued a victim trapped inside one of the heavily damaged trucks and administered first aid before transporting him to the National Hospital Abuja for further treatment.

Kalu stated that out of the 39 people involved in the crash, two male victims sustained injuries ranging from minor bruises to fractures. One of the injured victims received immediate treatment at the scene before further medical attention.

She added that FRSC personnel worked efficiently to ilise the situation, prevent additional casualties, and ensure the safety of other road users along the busy route. The Unit Commander led the operation, coordinating both rescue and traffic control measures.

Heavy duty recovery equipment was deployed to clear the damaged vehicles from the road, helping to restore normal traffic flow and prevent a major gridlock along the corridor.

Following the operation, all vehicles involved in the crash were handed over to the Karu Police Division for further investigation.

The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, reiterated the agency’s commitment to protecting lives through rapid emergency response and effective traffic management. He also urged motorists, especially drivers of heavy duty vehicles, to obey speed limits and maintain lane discipline.
