Zamfara NSCDC Arrests Suspect with Indian Hemp, Foils Bribery Attempt

In a significant operation conducted by the Zamfara State Command of the Security and Civil Defense (NSCDC), 40-year-old Kasimu was arrested in Shinkafi for possessing 70 of concealed Indian hemp. The arrest, which took place following intelligence from State about a drug consignment being transported to Shinkafi, was detailed during a press briefing on Monday at the NSCDC headquarters in Gusau, the state capital.

Commandant Sani Mustapha, represented by the command’s Public Relations Officer, ASCII Umar Mohammed, that the suspect to bribe NSCDC personnel with a sum of N1 million to secure release. This bribe was firmly by the officers .

Mustapha explained, “On getting the information, our personnel swung into action and apprehended the suspect. We discovered 70 pieces of cannabis worth N1.7 million.” The Commandant further noted that two other individuals, believed to be business partners of Abubakar, remain at large, that the investigation is still to capture all those involved in this drug trafficking network.

This incident underscores the ongoing efforts of the NSCDC in Zamfara State to drug trafficking, a significant issue in the region often to broader criminal activities. The seizure of such a substantial amount of cannabis not only disrupts the supply chain but also sends a clear message about the NSCDC’s commitment to law enforcement, especially when with attempts at corruption.
