The Senior Special Assistant on Broadcast Media, Press and Public Affairs to the Zamfara State Governor, Mustapha Jafaru Kaura, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Kaura, previously a vocal critic of the APC and the Minister of State for Defence, announced his resignation in a letter to the chairman of the PDP in Kungurki Ward, Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, citing persistent leadership disputes and multiple court cases at the national level that he said hindered the party’s smooth progress and development.
“With much obence and due diligence, I wish to formally tender my resignation letter as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party in Kungurki Ward of Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State, effective from March 9, 2026,” Kaura stated in the letter.
He explained that his defection is in line with Section 40 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended, which guarantees citizens the right to freedom of association, including the liberty to join or leave any political party, trade union, or organization for the protection of their interests.
Following his resignation, Kaura announced that he had joined the APC in Galadima Dan Galadima Ward, also in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area.
Prior to the defection, Kaura had been widely recognized for defending the administration of Governor Dauda Lawal through his role in the media team, often criticizing the APC in the process. His move to the ruling party marks a significant political shift ahead of upcoming local and state elections in Zamfara.
