In recent years, youth activism has surged globally, with young leaders at the forefront of advocating for climate action. This movement has seen the emergence of numerous organizations and individuals dedicated to environmental sustainability and social justice.

One notable initiative is the Youth Climate Adaptation Action Day, organized annually by the Global Center on Adaptation. Scheduled for October 12, 2025, this event aims to highlight the critical connection between climate adaptation, Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), and youth involvement. The theme for this year, “Adaptation, NDCs, and Youth,” emphasizes the role young people play in building resilient economies and achieving national climate commitments. The event seeks to build the youth adaptation movement with schools, universities, and youth organizations, raise awareness about climate adaptation, and drive knowledge sharing for youth-led adaptation actions worldwide.

In the United States, the Youth Climate Justice Summit, led by Climate Generation, is set to take place on February 13, 2025, at the Minnesota State Capitol. This summit is designed for youth by youth, offering a platform for young climate justice activists to interact, learn, and discuss strategies for effecting change in their communities. Participants will engage in youth-led workshops, connect with peers supporting climate action, and have the opportunity to speak with legislators about issues that matter to them.

In San Francisco, the Climate Action Youth Summit 2025 is scheduled for April 18, 2025. This event celebrates youth-led climate action in honor of Earth Month, showcasing how young leaders are tackling climate change and driving real solutions in the city. The summit will feature youth presentations, inspiring stories from young changemakers, and recognition of the passion and innovation behind climate solutions. This year’s theme, “Climate Action Across Careers,” empowers youth to explore their passions—such as art, fashion, and technology—through an environmental lens, connecting and discovering pathways to a sustainable future.

Additionally, the National Youth Climate Activism Award honors students across Canada under the age of 20 who are taking meaningful steps toward improving the outlook for the planet concerning climate change. The award offers prizes of $500 for those aged 14 and under, and $1,000 for those aged 15-19, recognizing up to 25 winners. Participants are encouraged to submit a video or a short story detailing their climate activism efforts. The winners are announced on Victoria Day, May 19, 2025.

These events and initiatives underscore the growing influence of youth in the climate movement, highlighting their commitment to environmental sustainability and social justice. Through education, advocacy, and direct action, young leaders are shaping a more sustainable and equitable future for all.
