Yobe Police Arrest Six Suspected Burglars, Recover Stolen Tricycle in Crackdown on Crime

The Yobe State Police Command has arrested an 18-year-old suspected burglar, Shettima Adamu, along with five alleged accomplices over criminal conspiracy, trespass, theft, and receiving stolen property in Damaturu. The arrests followed complaints from shop owners in the Bayan Tasha and Nayi Nawa areas regarding repeated burglaries and thefts involving goods valued at approximately ₦530,000.

Police Public Relations Officer SP Dungus Abdulkarim said Adamu was apprehended on February 2, 2026, at about 4 a.m. during a targeted operation by the A Divisional Police Headquarters. Preliminary investigations revealed that Adamu voluntarily confessed to the crimes and led officers to five accomplices involved in buying and selling stolen items. The accomplices, all residents of the same area, were identified as Abdullahi Abubakar, Mohd Suleman, Hassan Adamu, Mohd Hayatu, all aged 20, and Mohd Nura, 19. Several stolen items were recovered and marked as exhibits.

In a related case, the command also arrested 38-year-old Abdulrazaq Abdul’Azeez in connection with the robbery of a tricycle, popularly known as Keke Napep, in Potiskum Local Government Area. The tricycle operator was reportedly rendered unconscious after a harmful substance was allegedly used. Following an intelligence-led investigation and collaboration with the Keke Napep Union, the stolen tricycle was intercepted at a police checkpoint in Gaya Local Government Area of Kano State. Abdul’Azeez, a resident of Kumbotso Local Government Area in Kano, was brought back to Yobe for further investigation, while two other suspects remain at large.

Yobe State Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Ado, affirmed the command’s commitment to fighting crime across the state, warning youths to embrace legitimate means of livelihood. He emphasized that crime is not a business and that there is no safe haven for criminals in Yobe State.
