X Unveils Audio and Video Calling Features, Revolutionizing Social Media Engagement

Social media platform X has recently launched and calling features, a significant enhancement aimed at user interaction. This is part of X’s vision to become an “everything app” by integrating a variety of communication tools within its ecosystem.

These calling functionalities are available to all users, regardless of subscription status. To make a call, users can open a direct message with another and select the phone icon in the top right corner, where they can choose audio or video options. The features are compatible with iOS, Android, Mac, and PC, eliminating the need for a phone number.

Users can customize calling preferences in the “Direct messages” settings, allowing from contacts in their address book, those they follow, verified users, or all users. An “ call privacy” also ensures that users’ IP addresses remain concealed calls for better security.

This new positions X to directly with established messaging apps like WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, and Instagram, which have already offered similar capabilities. By incorporating these features, X seeks to a comprehensive communication solution, potentially the need for users to rely on multiple applications for various functions.
