Wolverhampton Wanderers have appointed Rob Edwards as their new head coach on a three-and-a-half-year contract, marking his return to the club where he began his professional career. Edwards, 42, replaces Vitor Pereira, who was dismissed after the team managed only two points from their first 11 Premier League matches, leaving them at the bottom of the table.

Edwards joined Wolves as a player in 2004, making 111 appearances over four seasons before transitioning into coaching roles, including under-18s and first-team coach, as well as interim head coach in 2016. His managerial career includes significant achievements, such as leading Forest Green Rovers to the League Two title in 2021 and guiding Luton Town into the Premier League in 2023. Before returning to Wolves, he managed Middlesbrough and started the 2025-26 Championship season with seven wins and five draws, positioning the team second in the league.

The club’s chairman, Jeff Shi, expressed confidence in Edwards’ ability to instill a new philosophy and identity in the team, which is crucial given their current struggles. His deep understanding of Wolves’ culture and proven managerial success are seen as key factors in this decision.

Edwards is set to make his managerial debut for Wolves in an upcoming match against Crystal Palace, where he aims to rejuvenate the team’s performance and steer them away from the relegation zone. This strategic move hopes to leverage his familiarity with the club, along with his leadership experience, to tackle the challenges ahead effectively.
