A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party backed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has pledged to rebuild the party’s structure in Ekiti State and return it to winning ways before the 2027 general elections.

The newly inaugurated State Chairman of the faction, Lanre Omolase, made the pledge during the inauguration of the State Working Committee in Ado Ekiti on Saturday. He assured members that the leadership would reposition the party and restore its political strength in the state.

Omolase, who is known to be an ally of former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, said the new executives were committed to rebuilding the party and called on members to remain dedicated to the PDP’s growth.

According to him, the party still has the capacity to regain its lost ground in Ekiti politics if members remain united and focused on rebuilding its grassroots structure.

Also speaking at the event, a member of the PDP National Caretaker Working Committee, Bisi Kolawole, said efforts were already underway to repair the party’s fractured structure and strengthen its internal system.

Kolawole, who was the party’s former governorship candidate in the state, acknowledged that the PDP had faced internal challenges in recent times but expressed confidence that national leaders were working to restore unity within the party.

He said consultations were ongoing among party leaders and stakeholders across the country to ensure the party emerges stronger and more united ahead of future elections.

Kolawole also urged the newly elected state executives to remain loyal to the party, respect senior members, and work together to rebuild confidence among party supporters.

The Chairman of the PDP State Congress Committee, Philip Adebiyi, commended members for the peaceful conduct of the congress and emphasized that reconciliation among party members would be the next major step in rebuilding the party.

The PDP in Ekiti State is currently divided into two factions linked to national leadership struggles. One faction is associated with the Turaki led National Working Committee, while the other is aligned with the Wike backed National Caretaker Committee reportedly led by Samuel Anyanwu.

In Ekiti, the Wike aligned faction is led by Fayose, while the party’s governorship candidate for the June 20 election reportedly comes from the opposing faction.

Party leaders say reconciliation efforts are ongoing as the PDP prepares to reposition itself ahead of the 2027 general elections.
