Veteran actor Wale Ojo has launched his latest project, “This is Not a Nollywood Movie,” a satirical comedy that provides a fresh take on Nigerian cinema. The film premiered at iMax Cinemas in Lekki, Lagos, drawing an eager and fashionable crowd.
Directed and written by Ojo, the movie features a diverse ensemble cast, including Samuel Animashaun Perry (Brother Shaggi), Bimbo Akintola, Chidi Mokeme, and Hanks Anuku. The narrative centers around Okechukwu Nwadi Ibe, a struggling actor from Nnewi who relocates to Lagos, aspiring for international recognition. Shot in both Nnewi and Lagos, the film highlights Nigeria’s rich cultural landscape.
Ojo characterizes the film as an action-packed comedy that aims to connect different generations of Nollywood. He promises a unique experience, stating, “There is going to be a lot of the unexpected in the film; a lot of things that you’ve never seen in any other Nigerian film.” The provocative title is designed to challenge traditional audience expectations and spark curiosity.
Ojo views laughter as a potent medium for connection and healing, and this film reflects that belief. The premiere marks a significant moment in Nigerian cinema, showcasing the industry’s evolution and the rise of new storytelling perspectives. With its innovative blend of humor, action, and cultural richness, “This is Not a Nollywood Movie” is set to create a lasting impression on both local and international audiences, further contributing to the dynamic landscape of Nigerian storytelling.
