The coronation took place on July 18, 2025, marking a in Kartel’s illustrious career. The ceremony was a highlight of the festival’s night at the Catherine Entertainment Complex, where Kartel delivered a high-energy performance that captivated the audience.

The announcement of Kartel’s crowning was made by Joe Bogdanovich, of Downsound Entertainment, during the festival’s media launch in May 2025. Bogdanovich referred to Kartel as the “ dancehall king,” signaling the forthcoming official coronation. This move followed between Kartel and Bogdanovich, with Kartel publicly accepting the previously held by Beenie Man since 2009.

Kartel’s return to the stage was highly anticipated, especially after his release from prison in July 2024, when his conviction was overturned by the of Appeal. His performance at Reggae Sumfest 2025 marked his first appearance at the festival since 2011. The event featured a star-studded lineup, including international R&B legend Toni Braxton, and local acts such as Masicka, Tarrus Riley, Protoje, Lila Iké, Tommy Lee Sparta, and Skeng.
