Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has spoken candidly about the emotional rollercoaster the club has experienced throughout 2025 as they prepare for their final game of the year against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield.

However, the celebrations were soon overshadowed by tragedy. In July, Liverpool suffered a heartbreaking loss with the sudden passing of forward Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva. Van Dijk acknowledged the deep impact this has had on the squad, both emotionally and on the pitch. He expressed that the team is still coming to terms with the loss and that the memories of Jota and Andre will always be carried by the club.

Reflecting on the current season, Van Dijk admitted that Liverpool’s performances have been inconsistent amid squad changes and the emotional weight the team carries. “We have not yet shown our very best, in terms of consistency,” he said.
As captain, Van Dijk shared how personally challenging the season has been. “We have had some good games and some memorable victories, still, but it has also been extremely challenging, with some really tough moments along the way,” he said. “As captain, trust me when I say I feel those tough moments as much as anyone.”
