Victor Osimhen’s impressive goal-scoring run in European football came to a halt on Tuesday night after Galatasaray lost 1–0 to Monaco at Stade Louis II.
Before this match, the Nigerian forward had found the net in eight straight European games, making him one of the most talked-about strikers on the continent. But against Monaco, he couldn’t break through a solid defense and ended the night without a goal.
The only goal of the game came in the 68th minute when Folarin Balogun scored for Monaco. Balogun, who once played for England’s youth teams but now represents the United States, found the net after Takumi Minamino had earlier missed a penalty that could have changed the game’s direction.
Osimhen, who joined Galatasaray permanently during the summer, came into the match as the second-highest scorer in this season’s UEFA Champions League with six goals. Despite taking five shots, he didn’t manage to get any on target.
The loss was a blow to Galatasaray’s European hopes and showed how tough it can be to win away games against teams that are well set up defensively. The Turkish side will now need to bounce back quickly as they prepare for more matches in both their league and European competitions.
Even though Osimhen didn’t score this time, his earlier performances featuring goals against big clubs like Liverpool, Ajax, and Tottenham have already made a strong mark this season. This match may have ended his streak, but it doesn’t take away from the standout form he’s shown so far.
