Victor Osimhen delivered an outstanding performance on Wednesday night, leading Galatasaray to a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Ajax at the Johan Cruijff Arena in Amsterdam. The Nigerian striker scored all three goals, achieving his first UEFA Champions League hat-trick and rising to the top of the competition’s scoring chart with six goals.

The match was scoreless until the 59th minute when Osimhen converted a precise cross from Leroy Sané, heading the ball past Ajax goalkeeper Remko Pasveer. Seven minutes later, he doubled the lead with a penalty after Ajax’s Youri Baas handled the ball in the area. Osimhen sealed his hat-trick in the 78th minute with another well-taken penalty, showcasing his striking prowess.

This hat-trick was pivotal, not only securing the win for Galatasaray but also marking a significant milestone for Osimhen. He now leads the Champions League scoring table, surpassing competitors like Erling Haaland, Harry Kane, and Kylian Mbappé, who each have five goals. Additionally, Osimhen has reached a total of 25 goals in UEFA club competitions, breaking Obafemi Martins’ previous record of 23 goals and establishing himself as Nigeria’s all-time top scorer in European tournaments.

Galatasaray’s win improved their standing in the group phase, bringing them to nine points and placing them just outside the top eight on goal difference. As they look to maintain this momentum in their European campaign, Osimhen’s exceptional form is crucial. His ability to perform under pressure not only bolsters Galatasaray’s chances but also cements his status as one of Europe’s leading strikers, enhancing his importance to both his club and the Nigerian national team.
