Vice President Kashim Shettima has voiced out the determination of President Bola Tinubu’s government to transform the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) into a globally recognized, digitally driven, and financially stable centre of excellence by 2030.
Speaking at the Graduation Ceremony of Senior Executive Course 47 of NIPSS in Kuru, Plateau State, Shettima highlighted the institute’s role as a key platform for developing thinkers, reformers, and innovators in Nigeria. He emphasized that the Senior Executive Course is a deliberate investment in the country’s future leadership and a forum for ideas that shape policy, guide reforms, and influence national development.
He said, “President Bola Tinubu has been unequivocal in his commitment to supporting NIPSS in its transformation agenda, particularly its ambition to become a digitally driven, financially stable, and globally recognised centre of excellence by 2030.
“We recognise the Institute’s critical role in shaping national policy and in building the leadership capacity required to navigate an increasingly complex world.”
Shettima noted that the government’s support goes beyond funding, infrastructure, and providing a conducive research environment. He stressed that the support must ensure NIPSS produces policy papers ready for implementation and that its outputs are fully integrated into national decision making and execution frameworks.
He praised the theme of the Senior Executive Course 47, “Blue Economy and Sustainable Development in Nigeria,” describing it as a clear reflection of the urgent need to address development, security, environmental care, and social inclusion as interconnected issues.
Shettima also pointed out that the strength of academic work lies not only in its depth but in its focus on practical, implementable policies grounded in Nigeria’s realities.
Assuring that the Tinubu administration values evidence-based policymaking, Shettima said he has instructed relevant ministries, departments, and agencies to carefully consider the report and recommendations from the graduands for both immediate use and long-term strategic planning.
