On Sunday, Vice President Kashim Shettima of Nigeria embarked on a journey to Davos, Switzerland, to represent his nation at the 2025 annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF). According to his spokesperson, Stanley Nkwocha, the Vice President will engage with a plethora of global leaders, business executives, and development partners to discuss strategies for enhancing the world economy.

Shettima’s schedule in Davos is packed with significant engagements. He is set to hold bilateral meetings with other leaders, providing an opportunity to discuss and reinforce international relations and economic collaborations. Additionally, his participation in various workshops and forums underscores Nigeria’s commitment to global economic discourse.

One notable event on his agenda is the workshop titled “Roadmap to Co-create Investment Opportunities for Africa’s Frontier Markets.” Organized by the African Development Bank (AfDB) in collaboration with the WEF, this session at the Congress Centre in Jakobshorn aims to increase capital flow into Africa’s under-tapped markets. It focuses on scaling solutions that promise a prosperous, inclusive, and resilient continent.

A highlight of the meeting will be the announcement of the Humanitarian and Resilience Investing (HRI) Roadmap for Africa. This initiative, developed in partnership with the AfDB, will be pivotal in fostering partnerships between public and private sector leaders to mobilize investments in Africa’s frontier markets, contributing to sustainable development and economic resilience.

The Vice President will also grace a high-profile dinner at Kurpark Village, Eiger, alongside heads of state, government officials, and international organizations. This event, which also includes the 2025 Crystal Awardees and members of the International Business Council, is an excellent platform for networking and strategic discussions.

Furthermore, Senator Shettima is scheduled to co-chair a forum at the Pischa Congress Centre on “Turning Digital Trade into a Catalyst for Growth in Africa.” This session is intended to advance dialogue on how digital trade can propel economic growth, particularly in the context of the recently adopted AfCFTA Digital Trade Protocol by the African Union in January 2024.

In addition, Shettima will contribute as a panelist to the “Global Risks 2025” Stakeholder Dialogue at the Aspen 2 Congress Centre. This discussion will delve into the complex, volatile global landscape, focusing on geopolitical, technological, and environmental risks as outlined in the Global Risks Report.

Accompanying the Vice President are key figures like Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, and Aisha Rimi, Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC), ensuring a robust Nigerian presence at these deliberations. Following his engagements, Shettima will return to Abuja, carrying forward insights and potential partnerships to bolster Nigeria’s economic agenda on the global stage.

This visit to Davos not only places Nigeria in the international spotlight but also reinforces its commitment to playing a proactive role in shaping the future of the global economy.
