Verizon has started reducing internet speeds for some 5G Home Internet customers who use the service at locations different from the address they registered with. Customers affected have reportedly received emails from Verizon informing them of the speed reduction.

According to Verizon’s Terms of Service, the 5G Home Internet service is meant to be used only at the registered address. The company appears to be enforcing this rule more strictly now, asking customers who have moved their service without notifying Verizon to submit a request to update their address in order to restore their original internet speeds.

Verizon’s Home Internet service uses the same 5G network as its smartphones and delivers broadband through a router. To ensure customers receive the promised speeds, the service is only available in areas with sufficient network capacity.

Verizon’s website clearly states that moving the internet equipment to a different address without prior notification can lead to service interruptions or termination. The company’s recent enforcement may be a response to some sales representatives reportedly bypassing these rules to meet sales targets.

Customers who want to maintain full speeds are advised to notify Verizon and officially transfer their service to the new location.
