On January 29 2026 the United Nations renewed its call for an immediate expansion of the ceasefire in Gaza warning that humanitarian conditions across the territory are continuing to deteriorate at an alarming pace. Senior UN officials said access to food clean water medical care and shelter remains severely limited for large portions of the civilian population as ongoing insecurity restricts aid delivery.

According to UN humanitarian agencies hospitals in Gaza are operating under extreme strain with shortages of medicines fuel and medical staff. Displaced families are sheltering in overcrowded facilities while winter conditions have worsened living conditions for vulnerable groups including children and the elderly. The UN said aid convoys face repeated delays due to security concerns and damaged infrastructure.

The Secretary General stressed that no political or military objective can justify the scale of civilian suffering currently unfolding. He urged all parties involved to uphold international humanitarian law and ensure safe unimpeded access for relief organizations. The UN also called on international partners to increase funding for emergency assistance as current resources are insufficient to meet growing needs.

Diplomatic efforts to widen the ceasefire continued as mediators engaged regional actors to prevent further escalation. UN officials warned that without sustained calm and expanded humanitarian access the situation could rapidly deteriorate further in the coming weeks.
