Donald Trump on Saturday called on several countries to deploy naval forces to help secure the Strait of Hormuz, a key global shipping route that has been heavily disrupted by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said multiple nations would likely send warships to support efforts led by the United States Navy to ensure the vital waterway remains open for international shipping.

“Many countries especially those affected by Iran’s attempted closure of the Hormuz Strait will be sending war ships in conjunction with the United States of America to keep the strait open and safe,” Trump wrote.

He specifically called on countries including China, France, Japan, South Korea and the United Kingdom to contribute naval forces because they are among the nations most affected by disruptions to global oil shipments.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical energy corridors with roughly one fifth of global crude oil and liquefied natural gas shipments passing through the narrow passage each day. At its narrowest point the strait measures only about 54 kilometres wide.

Washington Warns Iranian Oil Infrastructure Could Become Future Target

Recent Iranian s and threats have severely reduced maritime traffic in the waterway raising concerns across global energy markets and contributing to rising oil prices.

Trump said the United States would soon begin escorting oil tankers through the strait to protect shipping routes and restore confidence in global energy supply chains.

He also claimed that Iranian military capabilities had been largely destroyed during recent hostilities but warned that Iran still has the capacity to disrupt the waterway through drone strikes naval mines or short range missile s.

According to the US president the United States is prepared to take further military action if necessary to ensure the waterway remains open.

“The United States will be ing the shoreline and continually ing Iranian boats and ships out of the water. One way or the other we will soon get the Hormuz Strait open safe and free,” Trump stated.

The situation in the Strait of Hormuz remains a major concern for global markets and international security as tensions between Iran and Western allies continue to escalate.
