United States President Donald Trump has indicated that the ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran could end soon, claiming that there are very few remaining military targets in the country.

Speaking in an interview with Axios on Wednesday, Trump said there was practically nothing left for American forces to strike. According to him the conflict could be concluded whenever he decides.

The president stated that the war would end soon and suggested that the timing largely depends on his decision. His remarks come amid growing debate over the duration and objectives of the military campaign involving the United States and Israel against Iran.

Trump has previously given mixed signals about the war strategy but earlier this week he also hinted that the conflict might conclude in the near future.

The development comes as the US administration faces increasing political pressure at home due to declining public approval ratings and concerns about global economic disruption caused by the conflict.

Critics have accused the White House of launching the military operation without fully preparing for the potential consequences including threats to global oil supply routes.

One major concern is the possible disruption of tanker traffic through the Strait of Hormuz which is one of the world most critical oil shipping lanes. Any prolonged inility in the region could have significant effects on global energy markets and economic ility.

There is also speculation that Trump may seek a quicker resolution to the conflict ahead of the upcoming United States midterm elections where control of Congress will be contested.

However Israeli officials appear to have a different outlook on the timeline of the conflict. Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz said the operation would continue for as long as necessary until all military objectives are achieved.

Meanwhile Iran has warned that it is prepared for a prolonged confrontation. Adviser to the commander in chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Ali Fadavi cautioned that the United States and Israel could face a long war of attrition that might severely impact both the American and global economies.

In a further escalation the Revolutionary Guards claimed they had targeted two vessels in the Strait of Hormuz including a Liberia flagged ship and a Thai bulk carrier highlighting the growing risks to international maritime trade.
