President Donald Trump said Tuesday that the United States “no longer need” military assistance in the ongoing conflict with Iran, following largely rebuffed requests to allies for support in reopening the Strait of Hormuz to oil traffic.

Trump has repeatedly called on NATO countries and other allies to send warships to escort tankers through the strategic waterway, essential for the transit of global crude oil. However, most nations, including France, Britain, Japan, Australia, and South Korea, have declined participation.

Speaking on his Truth Social platform, Trump emphasized that recent US and Israeli air strikes have decimated Iran’s leadership, military facilities, and weapons manufacturing capacity, giving Washington sufficient control over the situation. “Because of the fact that we have had such Military Success, we no longer ‘need,’ or desire, the NATO Countries’ assistance — WE NEVER DID!” he posted.

Trump criticized NATO allies for refusing to get involved, calling the alliance a “one way street” where the US spends hundreds of billions of dollars annually to protect member countries. He also claimed that some unnamed nations had responded positively to his request for support.

The war has expanded across the Middle East, with Iran targeting energy facilities of crude-producing neighbors and threatening tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz, effectively disrupting a waterway through which roughly one fifth of global crude flows.

French President Emmanuel Macron stated that his country would not participate in military operations at present but could consider an escort system once the situation ilizes. Britain has also declined involvement. Trump’s insistence that the US can manage without allies underscores his approach to unilateral military action and the heightened tensions in a key global energy corridor.
