U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky gathered at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida, to advance peace discussions aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia.

Their primary focus was on finalizing a detailed 20-point peace plan that addresses essential issues, including security guarantees, economic cooperation, and territorial disputes.

Zelensky expressed optimism, stating that the proposal was “about 90% ready” and emphasized the need to involve European partners in future negotiations, even though immediate inclusion might not be possible.

The meeting took place against a backdrop of renewed Russian aggression, with recent missile and drone attacks on Kyiv, causing civilian casualties and damage.

Zelensky condemned these assaults as a blatant rejection of peace efforts by Russian President Vladimir Putin. In retaliation, Ukrainian forces targeted a Russian oil refinery to disrupt funding for the war.

Trump acknowledged the challenges ahead but remained hopeful that substantial progress could be made. He noted that while Zelensky’s plan represented a positive step, U.S. approval would be necessary for any comprehensive agreement.

The discussions also explored the feasibility of establishing a demilitarized zone in the disputed Donbas region, with Zelensky proposing a neutral economic zone monitored by international troops to deter future Russian aggression.

The outcome of this high-level meeting is still uncertain, with both leaders tasked with reconciling their positions with Putin’s stance. The international community watches closely, hopeful for a resolution that could lead to lasting peace in the region.
