President Bola Tinubu has firmly stated that he will not interfere with the ongoing trial of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Speaking through Mrs. Chioma Wesley, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement (South-East), President Tinubu emphasized that he fully respects the rule of law and will allow the judiciary to conclude its proceedings without executive interference.
Nnamdi Kanu, who was first arrested in 2015 on charges of treasonable felony and later rearrested in June 2021 after jumping bail, has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since his rendition from Kenya. He is however faced with multiple charges which includes terrorism, treasonable felony, and incitement, brought by the Federal Government.
The Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Binta Nyako, is however set to deliver a crucial judgment in the case on November 20, 2025.
