President Bola Tinubu has officially acknowledged the tragic death of Brigadier General Musa Uba, commander of the 25 Task Force Brigade, who was killed in a deadly ambush by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) militants.
The attack occurred on Friday, November 14, along the Damboa-Biu road in Borno State. General Uba was leading a joint operation involving military personnel and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) when their convoy came under heavy fire. Initial reports indicate that two soldiers and two CJTF operatives were killed on the spot. Though Uba initially escaped, he was later captured and killed following an unsuccessful rescue attempt by the military’s air unit.
While the Nigerian Armed Forces have yet to release an official statement, President Tinubu confirmed the loss in a message conveyed by his special adviser on information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga. The president expressed deep sorrow and extended condolences to the military, praising Uba and his team for their sacrifice in the fight against insurgency.
“President Tinubu also sent his condolences to the military over the death of the gallant soldiers and Brigadier General Musa Uba, who paid the ultimate price while on active duty fighting insurgents in Borno state,” the statement read.
In the same release, Tinubu addressed another troubling development the abduction of 25 schoolgirls from Government Girls Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State. He assured the affected families and the nation that the government is fully committed to securing the girls’ safe return and intensifying efforts to combat insecurity.
The twin tragedies underscore the persistent threat of terrorism and kidnapping in Nigeria, as well as the urgent need for coordinated national response.
