Tinubu Approves Posting of 65 Ambassadors to Countries and United Nations

The President of Nigeria Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the posting of 65 ambassadors to various countries and international missions including the United Nations as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria diplomatic representation around the world.

The list includes 31 non career ambassadors and 34 career diplomats whose nominations were earlier confirmed by the Nigerian Senate in December. The announcement was made in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy Bayo Onanuga.

According to the statement the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Nigeria has already received approval from some host countries for the nominated envoys. The United Kingdom approved the appointment of Ambassador Aminu Dalhatu as High Commissioner while France granted agreement for Ambassador Ayo Oke.

The ministry has also sent notifications to other countries requesting formal diplomatic approval for the remaining ambassadors in line with international diplomatic practice.

Among the prominent non career ambassadors appointed are Reno Omokri who will represent Nigeria in Mexico City Mexico while Femi Fani Kayode has been assigned to Germany. Former Minister of Health Isaac Folorunso Adewole will serve in Ottawa Canada.

Other notable appointments include Lateef Kayode Are to the United States Jimoh Ibrahim as Nigeria Permanent Representative to the United Nations and Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau as ambassador to China.

President Tinubu has also directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to immediately begin an induction programme for all ambassadors and High Commissioners before they assume their diplomatic duties.

The postings are expected to strengthen Nigeria diplomatic ties improve international cooperation and enhance the country representation in key global capitals.
