Ten Killed as Bandits Attack Woro and Nuku Communities in Kwara State

At least ten people were reportedly killed in a renewed bandit attack on Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State on Tuesday evening. Several families were said to have lost loved ones, while numerous houses were reportedly set ablaze during the violent assault.

Vanguard gathered that the bandits, suspected to be hiding in the forests of the National Park in Borgu, Niger State, launched the attack around 6pm, overwhelming residents in the affected communities. Local sources confirmed the death toll and widespread destruction caused by the hoodlums.

The Kwara State Government, through the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, confirmed the development, describing the attack as a “cowardly expression of frustration by terrorist cells” in response to ongoing counterterrorism operations in the state. Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq expressed his sorrow over the incident, extending heartfelt condolences to the victims’ families and the communities affected.

In the statement, the governor noted that the assault appeared aimed at diverting the attention of security forces, who have recently achieved successes in tracking and neutralising several terrorist and kidnapping gangs across Kwara State. He assured that efforts to strengthen counterterrorism measures would continue to protect residents and prevent further attacks.

Community leaders and residents called for increased security presence in vulnerable areas, highlighting the urgent need to safeguard lives and property in the face of repeated banditry. The attack underscores the persistent security challenges in parts of northern Nigeria and the ongoing struggle of state authorities to contain armed criminal groups.

The incident has reignited concerns over civilian safety and the effectiveness of security operations, prompting renewed calls for proactive interventions to prevent further loss of life.
