Supporter groups have asked FIFA to stop selling World Cup tickets under the PMA scheme after they saw very high prices for the final. The Croatian football association published the PMA list, which is meant for fans who go to many matches. The list showed the cheapest final ticket at $4,185 (£3,120).
Football Supporters Europe said the fees were “extortionate ticket prices imposed by FIFA on the most dedicated supporters for next year’s FIFA World Cup” and called FIFA’s approach a “monumental betrayal” of fans. The group also said it looks like attending every match from the first game to the final via PMA would cost around €6,900, which is about five times more than at the last World Cup in Qatar.
PMA seats make up eight per hundred of a stadium’s capacity for each match. FSE added that price levels for group stage games do not use a single standard. Instead, prices seem set by vague ideas such as how attractive a match might be.
Fans and national groups have reacted strongly. Scotland’s supporters expect many to travel for their matches in Boston and New York. Scotland fan groups and others have spoken out against the ticket costs.
England supporters group Free Lions posted on X that it supported FSE and called the costs “shocking prices, above and beyond the already high costs we suspected”. The group added, “This can’t be allowed to happen. Match-goers across the world deserve protection from these rip-off prices,”
FSE asked FIFA to pause PMA sales, meet with all affected parties and review both prices and how ticket categories are set. The group said it wants a solution that respects the World Cup’s traditions and its wide cultural value.
