Super Eagles forward Victor Boniface has commenced rehabilitation following a successful knee surgery in Innsbruck, Austria, ruling him out for the remainder of the 2025/26 season.

The Nigerian international underwent the procedure after weeks of medical consultations to address a persistent issue in his right knee, which had affected his availability and performance throughout the season.

In a Snapchat video shared on Sunday, Boniface was seen performing light leg stretches and walking with a support device, marking the official start of his structured rehabilitation program under the guidance of a physiotherapist.

“The procedure was necessary to fix the long-standing problem in my knee. Now the focus is on recovery and getting back stronger for next season,” Boniface said.

The 25-year-old striker struggled during the 2025/26 season, failing to score in 11 Bundesliga appearances during his loan at Werder Bremen from Bayer Leverkusen, registering only two assists before injury cut his campaign short.

Boniface, who previously suffered two anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries, initially received medical advice for immediate surgery but sought further opinions before proceeding earlier this month. While the operation is expected to keep him sidelined for an extended period, no precise return date has been announced.

The striker’s primary goal now is to regain full fitness and return stronger for the next season, with long-term injury management remaining crucial for the continuation of his career.
