Former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido has called on Nigeria’s opposition leaders to adopt a strategic and focused approach in their efforts to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s administration and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He emphasized the need to set aside sentiment, emotion, and personal grievances to achieve success in this political struggle.

Lamido made these remarks during an annual Ramadan breakfast held at his residence in Bamaina, Birninkudu Local Government Area, attended by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders and supporters from all 27 local government areas of Jigawa State. The gathering served as a platform to address the nation’s pressing political challenges.

Highlighting the deteriorating economic situation, Lamido accused the APC government of losing direction and failing to alleviate the growing hardships faced by Nigerians. He cautioned that defeating Tinubu requires a clear focus on national interest rather than personal vendettas or emotional reactions. According to him, opposition efforts must prioritize collective goals over individual disappointments with state institutions.

In a reconciliatory gesture, Lamido invited former PDP members who defected to the APC to return to their roots, noting that many had experienced persecution and mistreatment in their adopted party. He stressed that rejoining the PDP, the platform that originally elevated them in Nigerian politics, would be a dignified choice. Specifically, he called out prominent figures such as Rotimi Amaechi, Nasir El-Rufai, Rabiu Kwankwaso, and Aliyu Wamakko, urging them to reunite under the PDP banner to “liberate Nigeria from the APC atrocity.”

Lamido dismissed the potential of alternative parties like the Social Democratic Party (SDP) or the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to effectively challenge Tinubu, asserting that only the PDP possesses the necessary structure and strength to lead a robust opposition.
