Spain have released Martin Zubimendi from their national squad due to knee discomfort, the team announced on Sunday.
“To avoid any risk whatsoever and safeguard the player’s health, he has been released from the squad,” the Euro 2024 winners said in a statement, adding that Arsenal’s medical staff had been fully informed throughout the process.
Zubimendi, 27, featured as a substitute in Spain’s 3:0 victory over Serbia on Friday, but he will now miss Tuesday’s friendly against Egypt in Barcelona.
A key figure in Arsenal’s midfield this season, Zubimendi has made 44 appearances across all competitions, contributing significantly to the Premier League leaders’ performances.
The decision prioritizes the midfielder’s long-term fitness as he continues to play a central role for both club and country.
