The Standards Organisation of Nigeria has reaffirmed its support for the Federal Government’s National Single Window for Trade, a digital platform aimed at streamlining import and export procedures and strengthening the country’s trade ecosystem.

The National Single Window is scheduled to launch on March 27, 2026. The platform is designed to integrate multiple government agencies into a single electronic portal, enabling traders to submit all required documentation through one central system.

According to officials, the digital platform will help reduce duplication in trade processes, improve transparency and significantly speed up processing times across Nigeria’s trade network.

Speaking on the standards body’s involvement in the initiative, the Director General of SON, Ifeanyi Chukwunonso, said the organisation is fully committed to ensuring the success of the new trade system.

“We are fully committed to supporting the National Single Window for Trade. By integrating our regulatory processes into this platform, we aim to ensure that all imported and exported products comply with national and international standards while enhancing efficiency for traders,” he said in a statement released on Monday.

As the national standards authority, SON is responsible for enforcing product quality, ensuring consumer safety and promoting fair trade practices in Nigeria. The organisation said it is working closely with other government agencies to guarantee that standards compliance is fully integrated into the National Single Window framework.

Chukwunonso noted that the initiative represents a major step toward modernising Nigeria’s trade infrastructure and improving efficiency in cargo processing.

He explained that the electronic submission of permits, certificates and other regulatory documents would simplify trade procedures, accelerate cargo clearance and boost Nigeria’s competitiveness in the global market.

The SON boss also disclosed that the agency has aligned its digital platforms and regulatory processes with the National Single Window system to ensure seamless participation once the platform becomes operational.

“Our preparations will allow for faster processing of standards related approvals and better coordination with other government agencies operating within the National Single Window environment,” he added.

Through the initiative, SON said it will continue to safeguard product quality, protect consumers and promote fair trade while supporting the Federal Government’s efforts to make Nigeria a more attractive destination for global commerce and investment.
