Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA Joint Task Force have recorded another operational success in the North West following coordinated raids that led to the killing of a terrorist and the destruction of a clandestine medical facility used by criminal elements. The operations were carried out between January 21 and 22, according to a statement released by the Nigerian Army.

The statement, signed by the Media Information Officer of the operation, Captain David Adewusi, revealed that troops of the 8 Division Garrison Strike Force, working in collaboration with operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), conducted a fighting patrol in Sokoto State. During the patrol, the troops engaged terrorists at Gundumi Village in Isa Local Government Area.

In the encounter, one terrorist was neutralised, while others reportedly escaped into nearby forests with gunshot wounds. The troops also recovered six AK-47 rifles and three motorcycles believed to have been used by the criminals to launch attacks and evade security forces.

In a related operation, troops from the 1 Brigade, alongside the Headquarters Joint Task Force OPFY Mobile Strike Team, targeted another terrorist hideout in the Bingi Forest. Acting on credible intelligence that wounded terrorists were receiving medical treatment in the area, the troops uncovered a makeshift medical facility concealed within the forest.

The facility was subsequently destroyed, dealing what the military described as a significant blow to the terrorists’ logistics and support network. Security officials noted that the destruction of such facilities limits the ability of criminal groups to recover from injuries sustained during engagements with troops.

Captain Adewusi reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to dismantling terrorist networks and restoring peace and stability across the North West. The latest success adds to ongoing military efforts nationwide, as troops continue sustained offensives against insurgent and terrorist groups threatening lives and property.
