ILORIN — Seven construction workers abducted from a Kwara State Government road project have been released after weeks in captivity.

The workers were kidnapped on December 15, 2025, while carrying out construction along the Sabaja–Owa-Onire Road in Isin Local Government Area, sparking widespread concern among residents and families of the victims.

Confirming their release on Monday, the Press Secretary of the Ministry of Works, Olajide Abolarin, said the state Commissioner for Works and Transport, Abdulquawy Olododo, announced that the workers regained freedom following coordinated efforts by the state government and security agencies.

Olododo described the development as a significant boost to public safety in the state and praised Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for demonstrating firm political will in confronting insecurity. He noted that two of the abducted workers were engineers employed by the Kwara State Ministry of Works, highlighting the risks faced by personnel involved in public infrastructure projects.

“We are grateful to His Excellency and to the security agencies. We also appreciate everyone who stood by us in these trying times,” Olododo said.

The abduction had earlier drawn public attention after families raised alarm over what they described as slow rescue efforts, alleging that the kidnappers demanded a ransom of N500 million. Families had appealed to the government and security agencies to intensify rescue operations, an appeal now met with relief following the safe return of the workers.

The Press Secretary commended the collective efforts that led to the release and expressed hope that continued vigilance and collaboration between the government and security agencies would help prevent similar incidents in the future.
