Senator Ahmad Lawan has called on Nigerians to show deeper appreciation for the sacrifices made by the country’s military personnel, emphasizing that their service should never be taken for granted.

Speaking to journalists at the State House on Thursday, the former Senate President addressed the growing public debate surrounding the recent confrontation between FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and naval officer Lt. A.M. Yerima over a disputed property in Abuja. The incident has sparked widespread reactions across the country.

Lawan, who currently chairs the Senate Committee on Defence, stressed that members of the armed forces risk their lives daily to protect the nation and deserve unwavering respect and support. “These are individuals who serve under extreme conditions. Their welfare and dignity must be a top priority,” he said.

He noted that while the federal government continues to invest in security infrastructure and personnel, citizens must also play their part by honoring and supporting those who defend the country.

Turning to legislative matters, Lawan addressed concerns about the upcoming 2026 budget, assuring the public that there is no reason for anxiety. He said both the executive and legislative arms are working in harmony to ensure timely passage of the Appropriation Bill once it is presented.

During his meeting with President Bola Tinubu, Lawan commended the administration’s efforts in steering economic and security reforms. He described the president’s approach over the past two years as bold and stabilizing, though he acknowledged that challenges remain.
