Abia North Senator Orji Uzor Kalu told reporters at the National Assembly that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is still the main contender for the 2027 presidency. He said the APC has broad support and that the president’s policies are helping the economy and national security.
Kalu said the National Assembly under Senator Godswill Akpabio is working with the president by passing laws that back Tinubu’s recovery plans.
On comments from US President Trump about killings in Nigeria, Kalu said he agrees with Trump and noted that many lives have been lost to attacks across the country. He urged that jihadists, whom he accused of plotting to destroy Nigeria, be blacklisted.
Kalu added that he had already spoken about Nigeria’s security problems with two former US presidents, one Republican and one Democrat, and with six current US senators. He said those officials told him they were ready to help Nigeria fight terrorism. He described himself as “pro-America” and also said some of today’s global instability began after the removal of Libya’s Muammar Gaddafi and Iraq’s Saddam Hussein, which he says led to more weapons in Africa.
He insisted the United States is not targeting President Tinubu but is focused on the jihadist groups causing unrest.
Asked about rumours that Abia Governor Alex Otti might leave the Labour Party for the APC, Kalu said no one from the APC, including President Tinubu, has pressured anyone to join the party.
On the idea that Anambra Governor Charles Soludo will join the APC after re-election, Kalu said: “Soludo is a progressive like myself, President Tinubu, Senate President Akpabio, and the Governors of Imo, Ebonyi, and Enugu. He has no alternative than to come and join us it’s confirmed.”
Kalu acknowledged that many Nigerians are facing hard times but said the president and the Senate are working hard to restore the economy and secure food supplies.
I disagree, I think we need fresh faces and new ideas in 2027.
I think we should focus on new, younger politicians instead of the same old names.
Older politicians bring experience and wisdom to the table. Dont discount their value.
I disagree, we need fresh faces in politics, not the same old names.
I disagree, Tinubu is outdated. Time for new leadership! #2027Elections #FreshIdeasNeeded
I think its time for some fresh faces in politics, enough of the same old names!
Tinubu? More like Tini-NO! Time for fresh faces in politics.
Fresh faces are needed, but dont dismiss experience outright. Tinubu may still bring value.
