Former Senate President Senator Ahmad Lawan, APC Yobe North, has called on opposition parties to set aside partisan interests and support the administration of President Bola Tinubu, emphasizing that national progress should take precedence over party politics.

Speaking on Tuesday while receiving a delegation from the City Boy Movement Yobe State Chapter at the National Assembly Complex, Lawan urged critics to acknowledge and give credit to the government where due. He highlighted the need for constructive engagement and backing of good policies beyond party lines for Nigeria to move forward.

Lawan, who chairs the Senate Committee on Defence, cited achievements in the security sector under the Tinubu administration. He pointed to the signing of the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria DICON Bill, reorganisation of security architecture, and approval of a significant allowance increase for armed forces personnel as measures worthy of commendation.

He further praised the administration’s efforts to reset the nation through courageous reforms that may be unpopular but are aimed at long-term national benefit. Lawan encouraged all Nigerians to rally behind Tinubu’s leadership for the betterment of the country.

On education, Lawan stressed the importance of providing basic education to Northern Nigeria’s youth, noting that insecurity can be mitigated through educational investment. He advocated strict implementation of the UBEC Act 2004, which allocates 2 percent of the Consolidated Revenue Fund to education, and commended Yobe State Governor Hon. Mai Mala Buni for initiatives addressing education challenges in the state.

During the meeting, the City Boy Movement delegation outlined plans for grassroots mobilisation, empowerment programs, and community initiatives, including Education for All and Health for All projects. Lawan welcomed the movement and confirmed his support, reiterating his commitment to mobilising Nigerians through networks such as the Tinubu House-to-House Network.
