Senator Ned Nwoko has paid tribute to his late colleague, Senator Barinada Mpigi, who passed away on February 19 at the age of 64. Mpigi, who represented the Rivers South-East Senatorial District, was remembered as a devoted public servant and respected political figure.

In a tribute in Abuja, Nwoko described the news of Mpigi’s death as difficult to process even a week after his passing. He highlighted the late senator’s decades-long commitment to public service, from his tenure as Council Chairman to his time in the House of Representatives and finally as a member of the 10th Senate.

Nwoko praised Mpigi’s deep connection with his constituency, noting that the trust and loyalty he earned were reflections of his accessibility, presence, and dedication to community development. He also acknowledged Mpigi’s integration into Abbi in Ndokwa, Delta North, the homeland of his wife, Mrs. Patricia Obiageri Mpigi, where he contributed to local projects and fostered communal pride.

“His demise is not only a profound loss to the Ogoni people of Rivers but also to Abbi, which he embraced as family, and indeed, to Nigeria,” Nwoko said. He described Mpigi as a bridge builder, a stabilizing force, and a leader whose memory embodies dignity and service.
