The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to ensuring timely pension payments for retired civil servants, emphasizing that public service does not end upon leaving office.

The assurance was given during a meeting with the leadership of the Association of Lagos State Retired Heads of Service and Permanent Secretaries, led by Otunba Nurudeen Ojora Adejiyan and Mrs. Dr. Abeke Taire, according to a statement from the governor’s X handle on Friday.

In his address, Governor Sanwo-Olu praised the retirees for their years of dedicated service, describing them as individuals who have made significant contributions to Lagos’ growth and development. “These are men and women who gave their best years to our state, and they deserve respect and dignity in retirement,” he said.

He further emphasized the importance of consistent and timely pension payments. “One thing I am particularly proud of is that Lagos continues to meet its obligations to our retirees. After serving the state faithfully, no one should have to worry about when their pension will be paid. That responsibility rests with us, and we take it seriously,” Sanwo-Olu added.

The meeting highlighted the state’s ongoing efforts to maintain welfare support for retired public servants and ensure that pension obligations are fulfilled promptly and consistently. The governor also noted that while there is always room for improvement, the direction is clear: Lagos is committed to honoring those who have served the state.

The engagement reflects Lagos State’s broader focus on social welfare, financial security, and respect for civil servants who have dedicated their careers to public service.
