Sanwo-Olu Highlights Governance as Key to Restoring Confidence and Prosperity at CIoD Dinner

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has emphasized that good governance is essential for restoring public confidence and achieving long-term prosperity under the federal government’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He made these remarks during the Chartered Institute of Directors (CIoD) Dinner and Awards Night held recently.

Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed Lagos State’s readiness to collaborate with the CIoD to promote governance excellence. He stressed that authority holds true value only when exercised with integrity, honor, and sound governance.

Acknowledging the complex environment directors face today, with unpredictable markets, technological advancements, evolving stakeholder demands, and a growing focus on sustainability. Sanwo-Olu urged directors to remain well informed and accountable. He highlighted that the margin for error has significantly narrowed and that strong institutions are vital for economic development.

“To all directors, continue to champion transparency and mentor the next generation, and yes, Lagos is willing to collaborate with CIoD as part of our recommitment to excellence in leadership. Under the renewed hope agenda, governance remains central to restoring confidence and unlocking long-term prosperity,” he said.

Michael Olawale-Cole, CEO of Colenson Brokers Nigeria Ltd., also spoke at the event, reflecting on leadership during challenging times. He noted that while triumphs are often seen as breakthroughs or innovations, true leadership success lies in navigating adversity and ensuring teams emerge stronger, more focused, united, and resilient.
