Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu said protecting lives and property in the state is a shared responsibility between government and citizens, and he called for stronger partnerships to meet new security challenges.
He made the remarks at the 19th Annual Town Hall Meeting on Security, organised by the Lagos State Security Trust Fund at Victoria Island. The governor also reiterated his government’s willingness to work closely with the Federal Government and security agencies to achieve a safer state.
Sanwo-Olu said the meeting theme, ‘Building Trust, Enhancing Security: A New Era of Security and Partnerships,’ reflects the state’s goal to boost public safety. He added that spending on security is essential.
“Every investment we make in security is a direct investment in peace, order and prosperity.
“Security is not a task for government alone. It is a shared duty, and we must continue to work together to build a safer Lagos for all,” he said.
Dr Ayodele Ogunsan, Executive Secretary of the LSSTF, credited the governor’s steady funding for the state’s relative safety. He listed recent steps taken by the fund, including buying patrol vehicles, building and fixing security facilities, and extensive training for personnel.
“We have continued to strengthen security operations because the governor has never relented in supporting the Fund.
“Our interventions from vehicles to technology and personnel training have significantly enhanced response capacity,” he said.
Kehinde Durosimi-Etti, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the LSSTF, thanked donors and stressed that trust underpins effective support for security. He urged wider public involvement in the fund.
“We encourage well meaning individuals, corporate organisations, the private sector, students and youths to contribute.
“Securing Lagos, and indeed Nigeria, requires all hands on deck.”
Commissioner of Police Jimoh Olohundare gave figures for October 2024 to September 2025, reporting 152 murder cases, 9,275 arrests, and recovery of 518 rounds of ammunition. He said the command also dealt with other crimes during the period.
The meeting emphasized the need for continued collaboration among government, security agencies and the public to keep Lagos safe.
