Russian forces executed their largest drone attack on Ukraine, directly targeting Kyiv for the first time. The assault began around 2:00 AM, with multiple drones infiltrating the city despite the activation of air defense systems. The Cabinet of Ministers building suffered the most damage, where a drone struck its upper floors, igniting a significant fire that led to partial collapse.

Emergency responders quickly arrived, with firefighters battling the blaze while rescue operations sought out survivors trapped beneath debris. The attack claimed at least five lives and injured many others, with numbers still being verified as recovery efforts progressed. Beyond the government building, residential areas in the Shevchenkivskyi and Holosiivskyi districts experienced explosions, resulting in fires and structural damage to homes and businesses. Local authorities advised residents to remain alert and seek shelter during air raid alerts.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attack, labeling it an egregious violation of Ukraine’s sovereignty. He pledged to enhance air defense measures and sought international support to hold Russia accountable. The response from the international community was swift, with the United States and European Union expressing solidarity with Ukraine and advocating for increased sanctions against Russia. Ongoing diplomatic efforts aim to coordinate a united response to the escalation.

This unprecedented drone strike highlights the intensifying hostilities in the region and the severe challenges faced by Ukraine in protecting its capital. As the situation unfolds, authorities are focused on assessing the damage and ensuring the safety of Kyiv’s inhabitants.
