In the early hours of December 6, 2025, Russia executed a significant assault on Ukraine, launching 653 drones and 51 missiles, coinciding with Ukraine’s Armed Forces Day. This prompted nationwide air raid alerts, with Ukrainian air defenses successfully intercepting 585 drones and 30 missiles. Nevertheless, 29 sites were hit, resulting in at least eight injuries, three in the Kyiv region.

The primary targets of the assault were Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and transportation networks. Ukrenergo, the national energy operator, confirmed damage to power stations and energy facilities in various regions. A particularly severe strike affected the train station in Fastiv, causing significant disruptions to train services. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attacks, emphasizing their impact on civilian infrastructure and highlighting the damage suffered by the Fastiv train station.

Benin authorities report that military successfully prevents coup attempt.

Additionally, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) indicated that the attacks disrupted Ukraine’s power grid, temporarily cutting off external electricity to the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant and prompting other nuclear facilities to scale back their output.

These developments come amidst ongoing diplomatic efforts to establish a post-war security framework for Ukraine. U.S. and Ukrainian officials have been engaged in discussions in Florida about a potential peace agreement, acknowledging that real progress hinges on Russia’s commitment to peace.

This escalation in military actions reinforces the complexities surrounding a peaceful resolution to the conflict, as the continual assaults significantly disrupt civilian life and essential infrastructure throughout Ukraine.
